The increasing of international contacts, both methodological and scientific, was a consequence of the worldwide interest for knowledge transfer to civil society level.
The activity within InterMEDIU develops three categories of academic skills within the academic curriculum: problem based learning (in a multidisciplinary setting if required), finding and using information, and science communication. This includes aspects such as problem definition, project implementation, and communication of results to non-experts. Students learn to work in problem based projects and how to work in groups. Multidisciplinary work is usual and communicative skills, like oral and written presentation are gained by students. The Centre offer information, research and consultancy on environmental issues, health, and occupational safety and health problems to citizens, NGOs and institutions.
Also, it organized programs of environmental education in schools, high schools or universities, as well as for other community groups, to increase environmental awareness and offer students, in cooperation with other members of academic staff, the possibility to gain experience with project work and cooperation with citizen groups, and to develop their practical oriented approach of environmental problems. In this regard, as recognition of its efforts and experience, InterMEDIU set up a training program in environmental protection, certified and financed by the Ministry of Education and Research, for high school teachers. InterMEDIU developed a library of legislation, standards, and books from environmental field.
